Our guide to social media

The benefits

Social media is a valuable tool to help market your brand. Effective use of social media can help to raise brand awareness, drive traffic to your website and footfall to showrooms resulting in increased sales.

Before you start

Do an audit of your existing social channels and set up any accounts you do not currently have. Also, check that information on your existing profiles is up to date and that any profile images are high quality and not pixilated.

Who is your audience and what is your message?

Consider the type of person you want to target and the content they might be interested in. Your posts can then be built around messages aimed at your target audience.

Which platform?

Social media exists across a number of platforms; understanding each platform will help you identify the right ones for your target audience and inform the content you post.

Facebook

Begin by creating a Facebook Business Page. It’s important to remember that Facebook is a fairly relaxed and casual platform, so your content and tone should reflect this. Try to include a high quality, attractive image and a link to a relevant webpage within each of your posts.

Instagram

Instagram is an image-led platform which allows users to share single or multiple images or short videos to their grid. Ensure that your profile is set to a business account to unlock additional features and performance analytics. To grow your audience, make good use of hashtags and share standout, trend led imagery on both your grid and via Instagram stories.

Twitter

Twitter is a topical platform, which allows you to easily share updates across the web and is a good platform to share and keep up with industry news and trends. Be sure to use relevant hashtags in each of your posts and follow those relevant to you to reach a wider, more engaged audience.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a professional social media platform and can be a useful place to see what is happening in similar industries. To reach a targeted audience, tailor your posts to a more professional industry audience, these might include interior designers, homebuilders or architects.

Last year, the global number of active social media users passed 3.8 billion. More than ever, social media platforms offer opportunities to reach potential new customers and showcase your offering.
