Bringing the trend to life

We’ve partnered with colour expert and interior designer Ali Munro to create Palm Springs, a trend which can be incorporated into your bathroom to create a space that leaves you feeling energised and positive.

To help you design a washroom with the feel-good factor, Ali gives her top tips on recreating the Palm Springs trend in your own home…

1. Let there be light…

The Palm Springs trend is all about channelling the beauty of the California sunshine at home, so illuminate your bathroom by allowing as much natural light into your space as possible and add softer ambient lighter for a warm, relaxing glow.

This will help to give your bathroom a warm, summertime feel that lasts all year round.

2. Think pink (and green, white & tangerine!)

Colour is key when it comes to a Palm Springs look. Consider millennial pinks, chalky tangerines, sunshine yellows and spearmint greens. As a starting point, choose two or three of your favourite shades and incorporate these into your design.

A simple way to add colour to your space is to paint your floor, storage or just a feature wall in a Palm Springs shade.

Alternatively, make a strong colour statement by painting your cast-iron bath in a vibrant shade of pink or orange. A brightly painted freestanding bath, such as the Madeira, will give any space a bold, burst of colour and make the perfect bathroom centrepiece.

Be sure to incorporate sparkling white into your colour scheme too, this will create a beautiful contrast to your choice of juicy fruit shades. Your suite is the ideal way of achieving this, with the sharp angles of the Granley Deco suite providing a striking look.

3. Be brave with prints & patterns

Consider pattern and shape when creating a bathroom that embodies the Palm Springs trend. Add 70s inspired curves to your space by selecting on-trend scallop shaped tiles for your walls or basin splash back.

Striking geometric tiles and Terrazzo inspired flooring are also stylish ways of adding pattern and depth to your space.

Contemplate using patterned wallpaper for a feature wall or even the ceiling. Tropical, deco palm or jungle prints are ideal for creating the Palm Springs look. Seek out prints with plenty of lush foliage in verdant greens and pinks to evoke an exotic and glamourous feel.

4. Make your space feel alive with greenery

Bringing a touch of the natural world inside creates a haven for relaxation and wellbeing. House plants will help you to feel connected to nature and add lush shades of green.

Palm plants perfectly embody the trend. Don’t be afraid to go big with larger plants such as the Kenyan Palm which add tropical elegance and have the added benefit of improving air quality and creating healthier spaces.

Alternatively, if you’re working to a smaller scale then mini succulents or Aloe Vera look fantastic grouped together and trailing plants look great on window sills.

5. Add flawless finishes

Complete your Palm Springs inspired look by adding stylish finishing touches. Be sure to utilise mirrors to add light and create the illusion of space. Curved or circular mirrors, framed in coral or mint , fit perfectly with this trend.

Think about how your taps can also contribute to your overall look, the limited edition Gracechurch taps with elegant Mother of Pearl inlay is perfect for adding a dash of glamour to your bathroom.

Small touches such as bright towels or floor mats in zesty tones are ideal for giving the room some fun bursts of colour and texture.

For a final dose of Palm Springs style use an inspiring print or picture to capture the mood - a perfect way to express yourself!
